Chris Wood has saluted his team mates following a blistering goalscoring spree that has carried the Clarets to Premier League safety.
The New Zealand international has hit a rich vein of form at the perfect time, with eight goals in as many games - including a first Premier League hat-trick - to ease Burnley away from the danger zone with three games still remaining.
And ahead of a reunion with former club Leeds United at Turf Moor on Saturday, Wood paid tribute to the mentality in the squad to deliver when needed.
“It’s nice when the goals are flowing and it’s what you want as a striker, but it all comes out of the team doing well,” said the 29-year-old.
“Everyone, from the defence and through the midfield is doing well to provide the chances – and plenty of them.
“Sometimes, you only get one shot in a game, but at the moment we are getting more as strikers, which is proving more fruitful for everyone.
“In the last eight or nine games, the team has done fantastically well.
“We haven’t got wins in every game, but we’ve played well in pretty much all of them and luckily enough, on a few occasions, I’m there on the end of a cross to finish it.”
Wood has roared past Ashley Barnes to become the club’s top Premier League scorer, with 50 goals to his name in just 114 starts.
And having registered double figures in each of his four seasons at Turf Moor, Wood insists there is more to come!
“I’ve always wanted double figures, but it’s never a motivation,” he explained.
“That was about winning games and at the time we needed points on the board.
“Fundamentally, we needed to find a way of winning games to stay in this league. The last eight games have worked well for us in that sense.
“I’ve been here just under four seasons now and 50 goals in that time is pretty decent, I think. I hope there’s a lot more to come.
"Personally I’m very happy with the part I’ve played, but I know that if it wasn’t me up there starting with Vyds, then Jay Rod or Barnesy would be delivering the same work ethic and goal ratio.
“I was just the one fortunate enough to be playing when the team started winning.”
Wood enjoyed two profitable seasons at Elland Road, scoring 41 goals in 77 league starts before making the £15m move to Turf Moor in 2017.
And the Kiwi is delighted to see the Yorkshire side back in the big time.
He added: “They are an impressive side. They have a great squad and a fantastic coach and we know it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re hoping we can cause them enough problems to get a win.
“They have shown across the whole season how good they are. They’ve caused a lot of big teams a lot of problems and it’s a shame their fans couldn’t be in there to see the season unfold.
“But they have stayed up comfortably for another season and it will be good to see Elland Road back bouncing again.”
