Burnley FC Women rounded off three away games in seven days with a thumping 7-2 win on the road against Stoke City on Easter Sunday.
Jay Bradford’s side raced into a three-goal lead within 15 minutes in the Potteries, before hosts Stoke pulled one back. Four further goals followed after the restart for the Clarets however, including a brace of penalties from Millie Ravening, sandwiched between a consolation for the hosts.
Interim head coach Bradford made two changes to the side that won at Huddersfield Town in midweek. Dom Cooper returned from the start to replace Lucia Molinari and Leah Embley was back in the side in place of Courtney Willis. Striker Laura Elford also returned to the squad, named amongst the substitutes.
First Half
Flying out of the blocks at the Emerys Stadium, Burnley were ahead nine minutes in as Sarah Greenhalgh powered home a header from Lizzie Hamer’s cross to the back post.

Three minutes later, Evie Priestley made it two as she tapped in Lara Miller’s inch-perfect free-kick delivery, and an own goal minutes later – also coming from a set-piece - made it three.
Hamer then drilled a strike wide before, with virtually their first effort, Stoke got one back via Sophie Bramford who curled home from distance.
The same City player also hammered wide of the far post from the edge of the area before the first half was out.
Second Half
In a more even start to the second 45, Nuala Miszkiel fired over for the hosts, but the Clarets eventually took charge of proceedings oncemore on 55 minutes as Ravening slotted home a penalty following a handball from a Stoke defender.

Sarah Greenhalgh would see a powerful effort kept out by Liz Hobson in the Potters goal minutes later, before another penalty was awarded to Burnley following a push on striker Priestley.
Ravening again stepped up and dispatched from 12 yards out to make it 5-1, and just two minutes later, it was 6-1 as Laura Elford dispatched from a few yards out with her first touch of the game having come on less than 60 seconds earlier.
Defender Lucy Walsh also came close to her first goal of the season, seeing a header cleared off the line at a corner, while Embley hammered a strike from an acute angle against the crossbar.
Stoke would pull one back through substitute Manuele Delle, who did well to beat her marker and slot home from a tight angle, before proceedings were rounded off by Embley herself on 81 minutes. The winger’s cross-cum-shot dropped into the far corner of the net over Hobson.

Deep into time added on, it could’ve been eight for Burnley as Elford netted again, but the referee disallowed her a second of the afternoon for an alleged push.
7-2 it remained come the full-time whistle, and the Claret Women are next back in action this coming Wednesday – 12th April – when they face Darwen FC in the Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup Final at the County Ground in Leyland (7.30pm KO).
