Burnley FC Women extended their unbeaten run this season, but only a leveller with virtually the last kick of the game from visitors West Bromwich Albion Women denied Jonathan Morgan’s side a first victory in three.
Instead, Millie Ravening’s goal to mark her 21st birthday & Emma Taylor’s first goal for the Club only resulted in a third consecutive draw for the side in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League.
Captain Hannah George had earlier been on target for the Baggies women before Sophie Tudor struck the late blow deep into time added on at the end of the second half.
Clarets boss Morgan made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 at Brighouse Town Women last midweek, with Lucia Molinari & Ellie York both coming into the side from the off to replace Ellie May & Courtney Willis.
Before the game, Burnley showed their support for Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces with all of the players wearing special warm-up shirts in support of the campaign.

First Half
It was a slow start at the Lancashire FA’s County Ground in Leyland, where only a half chance was created in the first 10 minutes of the game, and it fell to forward Evie Priestley who saw her effort bounce onto the roof of the net.
Albion Women came back at Burnley and the impressive Shannon Stamps drove at the heart of the Claret Women’s backline before seeing her effort deflected wide.
Burnley were having some joy down the wings, and it was Leah Embley who broke down the left to cross for Priestley soon after. The striker though was denied the opener as defender Tudor was inches ahead of her to get there first and head the ball away from danger.
Proving an end-to-end affair, Jenny Sugarman’s visitors had the next chance at the other end when Jannelle Straker forced a smart save out of Burnley captain Lauren Bracewell.

Burnley were then inches away from taking the lead five minutes before the break when Lizzie Hamer crossed for birthday girl Ravening to head down past the ‘keeper but an Albion defender was on hand to clear off the line.
Heading for the break goalless, the deadlock would eventually be broken on the brink of the whistle when, following a scramble from a free-kick delivered to the back post, George tapped into an empty net.
Second Half
Albeit disappointed, the Claret Women flew out of the blocks to start the second 45, and were level on the scoresheet within the first minute.
Hamer beat her marker to cross to the back post where the on-form Ravening towered above the defender to head through Charlotte Clarke and equalise.
Priestley also had a couple of chances to put the Clarets in front immediately following the equaliser, firstly firing an effort at Clark before moments later getting in front of a defender after good work from Embley once more, only to see her improvised flicked effort bounce off the top of the crossbar.
Burnley continued to better their opponents and eventually did get their reward after 57 minutes when a whipped corner bounced around the area and, as Albion failed to clear, found its way to defender Taylor on the edge of the area.

The centre back fired home with a striker’s finish to put Morgan’s side ahead, and in the moments that followed played her part in keeping Albion out at the other end, limiting them to half chances as a Straker drive straight at Bracewell the most notable of those.
Priestley then had a chance to put the game beyond doubt, and did well to get an effort away off balance, as she shot just wide.
But it was heartbreak for the Claret Women as the visitors went on to equalise against the run of play with almost the last kick of the game when the ball dropped to the edge of the area and Tudor found space to fire home. Bracewell did well to get a hand to the effort, but couldn’t prevent it from trickling over the line.
Burnley are back in action next Sunday – 30th October - with a trip to Liverpool Feds Women in the First Round Proper of the FA Women’s National League Cup. Played at the Jericho Lane Sports Hub, the game is scheduled to kick off at 2pm.
