Burnley FC Women stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to nine games this season with a 1-1 draw against Brighouse Town Women, dropping points away from home for the first time this campaign in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League.
For the second time in three days, having done so against Nottingham Forest Women last Sunday, Millie Ravening levelled things up for Jonathan Morgan’s side after they had fallen behind to a first half opener.
Morgan made just one change to his side from that draw with Forest as Courtney Willis started for the first time in 2022/23, replacing Olivia Greenhalgh who dropped out of the squad. Defender Ellie York was named on the bench.
First Half
Both sides had half chances early on with Evie Priestley seeing a shot blocked for the Clarets and Lauren Bracewell comfortably holding on to a long-range effort from Town’s Darcie Greene.

Ravening then tried her own luck from distance with Brighouse shot stopper Becky Flaherty keeping hold of the strike before the opening goal came through Monique Watson just after the half-hour mark.
The forward finished well having been squared the ball by Lucy Sowerby following a defensive error.
It wouldn’t be long before Burnley struck back though, Ravening on the scoresheet again as she rose highest to meet a corner and saw the ball squirm through Flaherty’s hands to trickle over the line.
Back on level terms, Priestley glanced a header wide while Leah Embley then drove at goal and saw a low strike go narrowly the wrong side of the post against her former Club, and it remained at 1-1 come the interval.
Second Half
Early on in the second half, it was almost déjà vu for Ravening who again connected with a corner, but this time could only guide a shot wide on the volley with Flaherty beaten.
Both Lucia Molinari & Sarah Greenhalgh were introduced off the bench alongside Aimee Kelly, and after Watson had rattled the crossbar at one end with a header, forward Kelly fired over at the other from the edge of the area.

Bracewell tipped Brighouse captain Shauna Legge’s attempt over the bar late on, and that was the last action of note as the points were shared.
Burnley next return to action on Sunday, October 23 when they take on West Bromwich Albion Women at the County Ground in Leyland. Entry is free for the 14:00 kick-off and we hope to see you there!
