Three points up for grabs in Telford

Burnley Women will be aiming to record a third straight victory in all competitions when they face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

The Clarets have won both matches to date under the stewardship of Interim Head Coach Louise Roberts, starting with a 3-0 victory at West Bromwich Albion in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National league.

Their last outing was the final of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup against Chorley, which they won 4-1 at the County Ground in Leyland.

Two goals in quick succession from Laura Elford and Heidi Logan gave the team a well-earned lead at half-time, but Chorley reduced the deficit just four minutes after the break.

After weathering somewhat of a Chorley storm, an own goal and a late Claudia Walker strike secured the team’s third straight County Cup title.

Burnley are 4th in the 12-team table heading into this weekend, having taken 40 points from 18 matches.

Wolves currently sit 2nd thanks to their 46 points, although the Midlanders have played one match more.

They are unbeaten in their last five outings, a run that includes three victories. The latest of those came in emphatic style last weekend at Molineux Stadium.

Managed by Dan McNamara, they beat West Brom 5-0 in the Black Country derby with Tammi George scoring the only goal of the first half.

They kicked into gear in the second 45, though, with Amber Hughes, Becky Anderson, Destiney Toussaint and Charlotte Greengrass finding the back of the net on a memorable day for the Club.

The Midlanders came out on top when these two teams met at Turf Moor back in September, with Hughes heading the only goal of the game in the 17th minute.

Kick-off at the SEAH Stadium (TF1 2NW), which is the home of AFC Telford United, is 2pm.

Tickets can be purchased online HERE in advance of the day, with prices set at £5 for adults, £4 for students and those aged 65+, and £1 for 3-16 year olds.

Entry can also be gained via cash or card payment on the day, but supporters are advised that there will be a £1 increase across all age categories.
