Clarets aim to build on Derby victory

Sunday will see Burnley Women take to the Hawthorns pitch against West Bromwich Albion, with three Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League points up for grabs.

The Clarets are buoyed by last week’s victory over Derby County, ending a lengthy spell without a fixture in the best possible way.

Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk made two attacking changes in the second half, bringing on Aimee Kelly and Abby Clarke.

They made all the difference with Kelly opening the scoring before Clarke, a lifelong Claret making her debut for the team, secured the victory.

Burnley are 3rd in the Northern table, five points behind Nottingham Forest but with two games in hand.

Sunday’s opponents West Bromwich Albion have enjoyed a mixed campaign to date and sit 8th in the 12-team standings.

Managed by Siobhan Hodgetts-Still, their last outing was a trip to Huddersfield Town last weekend which they won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Fran Orthodoxu and Jess Reavill.

The reverse fixture saw Burnley maintain their unbeaten league start to the season in November, winning 3-1 at the Lancashire FA County Ground.

After a goalless first half the Clarets scored two goals in a minute at the start of the second.

Leah Embley struck first, finishing off an incisive counterattack having been slid through by Bella Reidford, before Thea Paul converted from close range shortly after.

The Baggies pulled one back through Orthodoxu but Mille Ravening ensured the three points would remain up north with five minutes to go.

Tickets for this Mother’s Day fixture are priced at £5 for adults, £3 for concessions and £1 for children.

You can secure your seat online, in person from West Brom’s East Stand Ticket Office on the day, or by calling 0121 227 2227.
