It’s FA Women’s National League Cup semi-final weekend, with Burnley making the lengthy trip south to take on Plymouth Argyle.

The Greens, who are flying high in the Southern Premier Division, will provide healthy competition with a place in the final at stake.

Burnley booked their place at this stage of the competition with a 3-0 quarter final victory over Middlesbrough, in which Charley Docherty opened the scoring before Charlie Chadwick netted a brace.

Plymouth beat Lewes 3-0 in their last eight tie thanks to Phoebie Poole’s double and Tianna Teisar’s close-range finish.

Tickets for this match can be purchased in advance of the day. Adults are £5, while under 14s can access for free alongside a paying adult. Unaccompanied under 14s will not be permitted entry.

The opposition

Plymouth Argyle compete at the same level of the women’s football pyramid as Burnley, but in the southern section.

The Greens are currently 2nd in their 12-team table with 30 points from 14 matches, with their tally being two less than leaders Watford.

A trip to Exter City on Wednesday night was postponed, so Plymouth’s last outing was a 9-0 league victory at Billericay Town last weekend.

December addition Una Lue put herself firmly in Argyle fans’ hearts with a hat-trick that day, while Olivia Francis and Tianna Teisar both scored braces.

Plymouth’s FAWNL Cup run started with a faultless three games in Group A, with an aggregate score of 18-2. Then came victories over Watford, Oxford United and Lewes in the knockout stages.

In the dugout is a face that may be familiar to Clarets fans in Marie Hourihan, who was in charge of Stoke City between the summers of 2023 and 2025.

Key players to look out for include Roisin Kivel, who has worn the captain’s armband in recent weeks, and midfielder Ellie Noble, who tops the team’s scoring goals with 12 in all competitions.

“The fact that it’s a semi-final brings an element of excitement, and we’re really looking forward to it.

“We’ve always tried to be progressive in this cup and we’re proud how far we’ve come to this point.

“Plymouth are in the Southern Premier League, which has a very different dynamic to our northern section, so it’s going to be a different challenge.

“Coupled with the fact that it’s a cup game, we’re looking at 90 minutes between two teams that will be well organised and very progressive with the ball.

“That should make it a really good fixture for the neutrals.”
