Clarets in Adobe Women’s FA Cup third round action

A place in the fourth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup is at stake when Burnley take on Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

The match is the Clarets’ first of 2025 and comes slightly later than planned, with the adverse weather preventing it from taking place at the weekend just gone.

Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk and her players keen to start the new year with a positive result and 2024 was a year full of entertainment, with Burnley netting 107 times and recording an impressive win percentage of 72%.

Including beating Bradford City 11-0 in the second round of this competition.

Laura Elford’s five-goal haul stole the show that day, with Heidi Logan netting twice alongside further strikes from Bella Reidford, Aimee Kelly, Claudia Walker and Reanna Blades.

Nottingham Forest come into this one in impressive form, winning their last nine alongside being the only unbeaten team in the Northern Premier Division this season.

Moreover, the Reds have not lost a single match in any competition this campaign.

Carly Davis’ team travelled to Teesside in their last match before the winter break, edging past Middlesbrough with a 2-1 win to progress to the semi-finals of the FAWNL Cup.

Before that, they demolished Long Itchington 19-0 to get to this stage of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, with Freya Thomas, Bridget Galloway and Charlie Wellings all netting hat-tricks.

The points were shared when these two teams met in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League back in September.

After Mel Johnson gave Forest a first-half lead at the City Ground, Blades latched onto Brenna McPartlan’s reverse pass to fire in the equaliser 10 minutes from time.

There are some familiar relationships across the teams, with Burnley’s McPartlan spending time away with Forest’s Nat Johnson and Casey Howe on Northern Ireland duty in 2024.

All tickets purchased for the Sunday 5th January date will remain valid, and supporters with those tickets in their possession do not need to do anything.

Tickets for the match are still on sale and are priced at £8 for adults, £6 for seniors (66+), students with a valid NUS card and youths aged 14-17, and £4 for children aged 4-13.
