Burnley FC Women faced Wolverhampton Wanderers at the New Bucks Head Stadium in the Northern Premier Division of FA Women's National League on Sunday afternoon, with the Clarets claiming a 2-1 victory.
Beth Merrick opened the scoring for the opposition during the first half, before Isabella Reidford and Leah Embley charged a comeback in the second half.
Georgia Marshall captained Rebecca Sawiuk's side and Ginny Lackey also made her Burnley debut in the fixture.
First Half
The Clarets found the first chance through Millie Ravening when she stormed down the pitch leaving Ellie Wilson behind, she fired a low effort at goal but Becky Thomas did well to block the shot.
Merrick found the opener for Wolves when Tammi George assisted her with a squared pass at the top of the area, she hammered the ball straight into the top corner leaving Kirsty Levell behind.
Laura Elford tried her luck when she received a looped ball from Ravening inside the box, she attempted to volley it from close range however it was caught by Thomas.
Elford made another attempt at an equaliser when Leah Embley's outstanding run down the wing saw her send the ball to the far post, however Elford's touch moved it inches wide.
Second Half
With it all to play for in the final 45, three minutes in Tilly Wilkes crossed a high ball into the area and Reidford found the back of the net when her precise header flew past Thomas, 1-1.
Wilkes sent in a powerful free-kick 25 yards out where Brenna McPartlan managed to head towards goal, but it skimmed above the crossbar.
Embley found a breakthrough when she weaved through the pitch at pace and fired from 30 yards out straight into the top corner leaving Thomas no chance and bagging the Clarets the three points.
