Burnley Women made it two wins from two at the start of the 2024/25 season with a 3-1 triumph over Stourbridge on Sunday afternoon.
After falling behind to a first-half penalty the Clarets rallied and Brenna McPartlan, Emma Siddall and Laura Elford struck to earn a valuable three points.
Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk made one change to the 11 that started last week’s 9-0 victory over Hull City, with Reanna Blades coming in and Tilly Wilkes dropping to the bench.
Burnley controlled possession early on and almost took the lead in the 11th minute, but McPartlan’s shot from 18 yards was clawed away by Harriet Grimshaw.
Blades and fellow winger Anna Grey caused problems throughout with their pace and several balls flashed across the penalty area, narrowly evading a Clarets attacker.

However, it was the hosts who took the lead against the run of play shortly before halftime.
After Charley Docherty was adjudged to have fouled Seanna McCann-Lloyd, Stourbridge captain Rosie Embley picked out the bottom right corner from the penalty spot.
Sawiuk’s team talk had the desired effect as Burnley equalised five minutes after the restart through McPartlan, who controlled a loose ball to finish well.
Blades then flashed a further two balls across the box to no avail, but Burnley were ahead with 56 minutes on the clock when Siddall’s corner evaded everybody and sailed into the net.
Reinforcements started to come from the bench with Elford, Aimee Kelly and Wilkes all introduced around the hour.

That gave Burnley a boost and Elford was inches away from connecting perfectly with a header before Siddall powered a shot straight at the opposition ‘keeper in search of a crucial third goal.
Kelly thought she had found it as the clock hit 90 but she was denied by a strong save, however, the winger turned provider for Elford to finish into the top left corner soon after and put the match to bed.
Six points and 12 goals from two matches leaves Burnley 2nd in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League table, behind Rugby Borough on goal difference.
They’re next in action against AFC Fylde in the FANWL Cup on Wednesday 28th August, before travelling to Stoke on Sunday 1st September where another three league points will be up for grabs.
