Claudia Walker and Heidi Logan netted twice each as Burnley beat Halifax 7-0 to record a fourth straight victory and clean sheet on Sunday afternoon.

Jade Richards, Grace Palmer and Laura Elford were also on the scoresheet in a dominant display at the Young Guns Arena in Tadcaster.

There were two changes to the team that started last week’s 4-0 victory at Derby County and both came in defence.

Tilly Wilkes took Emma Siddall’s place at left-back, while Naomi Hartley made way for club captain Richards at centre-back.

The Clarets controlled the ball in the early stages and took a seventh-minute lead through Logan, whose hooked effort from the edge of the area was too high for Halifax ‘keeper Frankie Bowes.

Rebecca Sawiuk’s side pushed forwards at every opportunity on a tricky playing surface, with Grey working Bowes from close range and Richards heading over the bar.

As the match passed the half hour mark chances started to flow and the Clarets were having joy down the wings, with Grey and Logan using their pace to their advantage.

It was the former who set up the second goal, crossing for Walker to slide in her fifth in four matches in the 25th minute.

There was still time for a third before the break when Richards netted her first goal for the Club, converting Wilkes’ corner from close range.

Sawiuk made two changes at the break, with Richards making way for Hartley as she continues her return from injury and Danielle Maxwell replacing Grey.

Just as she did at Derby last week Maxwell had an immediate impact here, surging forwards down the right before crossing for Walker to pick out the bottom left comer in the 49th minute.

The striker wasn’t given the chance to play on in search of a hat-trick as she was replaced by top scorer Elford shortly afterwards.

At the same time, Louanne Worsey entered the pitch for her Clarets debut in place of Rhema Lord-Mears.

Elford’s introduction had a similarly positive effect as, four minutes later, she turned the ball round the corner for Logan to run the length of the Halifax half and slot home.

The same pair combined again soon afterwards but Burnley’s number seven was unable to hit the target this time, pulling wide of the left-hand post.

Palmer replaced Brenna McPartlan with less than 20 minutes to go and made it 6-0 as the match entered stoppage-time.

After a fine pass from Worsey, Maxwell recorded her second assist of the day when she crossed for Palmer to tap in from five yards.

Elford then stretched her own scoring run to four straight matches, stabbing past Bowes after Worsey squeezed the ball through a tight gap.

The Clarets stay 3rd in the table and now have 34 points from 13 matches, leaving them a point and a place behind Wolverhampton Wanderers who have played one game more.
