Millie Ravening’s hat-trick was followed up by Heidi’s brace as Burnley Women swept aside Rugby Borough Women 5-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Ravening’s treble took her season’s tally to 16, and the number 10 also assisted one of Heidi’s two fine finishes on a productive day at Grant Store Victory Park Stadium in Chorley.

There was one change to the side that started the victory over West Bromwich Albion last time out with Emma Sddall replacing Brenna McPartlan, who is on international duty.

Danielle Maxwell and Louise McDaniel were also away with Northern Ireland, so ‘keeper Naoisha McAloon and new signing Isabella Fisher came onto the bench.

Rugby ‘skipper Ebony Wiseman had the first chance of note but could only pull her 20-yard effort wide of the right-hand post with 10 minutes on the clock.

Claudia Mummery-Walker then missed the target from a close-range effort on the turn, before two goals in as many minutes from Ravening gave the Clarets full control.

The first saw the midfielder convert from close range after Jasmine Matthews kept Thea Paul’s deep corner alive, and the second was a powerful header from Charlie Chadwick’s inch-perfect cross.

The rest of the first half passed without much incident of note, but the game kicked back into life within a minute of the restart.

After Chadwick was bought down in the area, Ravening stepped up confidently to the spot and picked out the bottom left corner from 12 yards.

Chadwick was proving to be influential and would have been disappointed not to find the back of the net, having four efforts saved well by Poppy Soper in a five-minute spell.

Ross Wallace turned to his bench for the first time after 70 minutes with Siddall, Charley Docherty and Chadwick making way for Naomi Hartley, Kelly and Fisher respectively.

Heidi and Tilly Wilkes then replaced Mummery-Walker and Thea Paul and the former made a real impact after Matthews produced a brave block with her face at the other end.

The number 7 first latched onto Millie Chandarana’s through ball to chest and finish into the bottom left corner, and picked out the same part of the goal to make it five in the 95th minute.

An 11th straight league victory keeps Burnley top of the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League with 47 points from 17 matches.

The Clarets return to Turf Moor next week, with 2nd-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers the opposition.
