Burnley FC Women secured another three points against Stourbridge at the Lancashire FA County Ground in the FA Women’s National League North, winning 4-1.
Stourbridge opened the scoring with Jess Lowe winning a penalty for the visiting side, and despite Kirsty Levell making the save, Kelsey Richardson tapped in the rebound.
Leah Embley scored the equaliser for the Clarets before Aimee Kelly put them in front just before the break.
Millie Ravening gave the Clarets a two-goal cushion and Clarets captain Alethea Paul bagged her first goal for the Club to secure the three points.
Rebecca Sawiuk made three changes from Burnley’s last game against Nottingham Forest two weeks ago, as Maria Francis-Jones, Lizzy Hamer and Aimee Kelly came in for Dom Cooper, Rhema Lord-Mears, and Laura Elford, respectively.
First Half
The Clarets had the first chance of the game when Paul drove into the box and shot towards goal, but Glassgirls keeper Bamford was equal to it.
It was Stourbridge who took the lead however, when Mikayla Wildgoose fouled Jess Lowe and Richardson stepped up, and after seeing her penalty saved by Levell, tapped in the rebound.
Burnley quickly responded as Embley found the equaliser when Amaya Coleman-Evans crossed the ball into her feet, and she controlled the ball before hammering past Jamie-Lee Bamford.
And the Clarets would find themselves in front before the break as when Kelly received the ball from Ravening in the box, she slotted the ball in between Bamford and the near post from a tight angle to give the hosts the lead.
Moments before half-time Ravening secured Burnley a penalty, after Favour Omenazu’s foul, but Bamford was equal to her spot kick, parrying it away.
Second Half
Burnley continued the second half on the front foot and Paul was unlucky when she made space in the box and shot just wide of the far post.
The Clarets dominance would pay off when Ravening fired into the roof of the net following Kelly’s hard work to create an opportunity to make it 3-1.
Lizzy Hamer had a chance to make it four as she took a shot, but Bamford did well to tip over the bar.
Clarets defender Paul bagged her first goal for the club soon after, as she swiftly moved the ball across Glassgirls defender Zoe Clarke and fired the ball into the bottom right corner past Bamford in the Stourbridge goal.
Burnley had the last chance of the game when Brenna McPartlan attempted to slot the ball into the back of the net when Embley found her in space, but Bamford held onto the ball.
Wildgoose was dismissed ten minutes from time, but despite the Clarets losing a player, they held on, for what was a comfortable victory.
The Claret Women are back in action next Wednesday – 11th October – when they welcome Halifax to the Lancashire FA County Ground in the FA Women’s National League North.
