Burnley FC Women were on the winning side once more as they took on Halifax in the FA Women’s National League North, recording a 2-0 victory.
Aimee Kelly netted a first half opener before adding her brace just after the break as the Clarets secured the three points.
Rebecca Sawiuk made three changes to the side that beat Stourbridge 4-1 on Sunday, as Rhema Lord-Mears, Dom Cooper and new signing Gracie Prior came into the side in place of Amaya Coleman-Evans, Maria Francis-Jones and Mikayla Wildgoose.
First Half
The Clarets had the first chances of the game as firstly, the ball was laid off for Brenna McPartlan who drove over from distance and as Burnley continued to see a lot of the ball, Leah Embley took aim from 25 yards out but saw her strike parried away by Eagles ‘keeper Becky Flaherty.
Halifax had their first opportunity of the first half after 15 minutes when Monique Watson picked up the ball and ran at the Clarets defence before curling a shot towards goal that was held by Kirstie Levell.
Millie Ravening went close before half time, heading over the top from the edge of the box, as the Clarets continued to see a lot of the ball but were yet to find the opener.
And they would find that elusive goal, as Lizzy Hamer played the ball into Aimee Kelly who turned and struck into the far top corner.
The Clarets almost made it two on the brink of half time, as Paul worked space once more and stung the palms of Flaherty who parried away at her near post.
Second Half
Burnley started the second half as quickly as they ended the first, with Kelly bagging her brace after the Eagles failed to clear Paul’s cross and the ball bounced into the path of the striker who finished into the bottom corner.
The Clarets remained well on top, as Ravening did well to spin her marker and curl towards goal, but the midfielder saw her effort palmed away by Flaherty.
Kelly began the search for her hat-trick, and almost found it in the most audacious way – an overhead kick from the edge of the area – which Flaherty did very well to tip over the top.
Sawiuk’s side again almost found their third just after the hour mark, as the ball broke for Hamer just behind the penalty spot and she shot just over the top.
And as Burnley dominated the majority of the ball for the final stages, Lois Marley-Paraskevas took aim at what could have been her first goal for the Club, but Flaherty denied her in what proved to be the final opportunity of the game, as the Clarets secured the three points.
The Claret Women are back in action on Sunday - as they travel to Kingston Park to take on Newcastle United in the FA Women's National League North (2pm KO, BST).
