Millie Ravening marked her 100th Burnley appearance with her 68th Clarets goal as part of a 2-0 victory over Derby County on Sunday afternoon.

Lou Roberts’ side dominated proceedings from start to finish at Turf Moor, with an own goal off the Ewes ‘keeper confirming all three points would remain in Lancashire.

There were three changes from the team’s last league outing against Stoke City, with Jade Richards and Thea Paul stepping into the back five.

Aimee Kelly earned a starting spot up front following her brace against Real Bedford in the FA Women’s National League Cup, while Ravening reached her century in midfield.

The Clarets created their first opening after four minutes, but captain Yana Daniëls’ header from a Charley Docherty corner was wide of a post.

After some great footwork Claudia Walker tested Derby ‘keeper Lucy Jones with a powerful 20-yard effort, and Jones produced a flying stop to thwart Daniëls’ goal bound effort on the half hour.

Daniëls was having a real influence on the match and met a tantalising Paul cross from the left six minutes later, but couldn’t quite steer her header on target.

The Clarets huffed and puffed but were unable to find an opening goal before the break, while Kirstie Levell was not called into action at all at the other end.

Play restarted in a similar fashion and after a couple of near misses it was a penalty that eventually broke the deadlock in the 55th minute.

Walker was tripped after great tenacity from Kelly, and Ravening confidently picked out the bottom right corner from the spot.

With the added comfort of a lead Burnley started to purr and Jones was called into action once again – this time getting an outstretched left arm to Walker’s ferocious strike.

Roberts’ first change of the afternoon saw Docherty make way for Charlie Chadwick with 69 on the clock, and the number 19 was involved in the goal that made it 2-0 six minutes later.

Paul crossed into the six yard box from the left and Chadwick’s off-target shot hit Jones before trickling into the empty net.

Kelly and Daniëls made way for Louise McDaniel and Danielle Maxwell respectively with less than 10 minutes remaining, and another double switch saw Tilly Wilkes and Heidi replace Paul and Walker.

The remaining minutes, including six minutes of additional time, passed without any incident of note as Burnley secured a seventh straight victory in all competitions.

Roberts’ team remain top of the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League with 26 points from 10 matches and turn their attention to Norwich City in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup next weekend.
