Burnley booked their place in the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with an emphatic 11-0 victory over Bradford City on Sunday afternoon.
Laura Elford bettered her four-goal haul of the first round with five more at Burnley Training Centre, where Heidi Logan, Bella Reidford, Aimee Kelly, Reanna Blades and Claudia Walker were also on target.
There were three changes to the XI that started the team’s last outing against Hull City in the league two weeks ago, with Naoisha McAloon starting in goal as she did in the first round.
Charley Docherty came in at right-back, while first round goal scoring hero Aimee Kelly was given another chance to impress on the left flank.
It took just four minutes for the deadlock to be broken by Logan, who dispossessed a Bradford defender to net her first Burnley goal from close range.
Elford, who was wearing the captain's armband for the first time as a Burnley player, opened her tally six minutes later with a finish from just inside the area and found her second from a Blades cut back with 18 on the clock.
Reidford was next to strike with a well-placed finish with Blades again providing the assist, before Elford completed her hat-trick with a deflected effort through bodies shortly after the half hour.
The former Bradford player then slid in to net a Kelly cross with the help of the bar and Kelly found the net herself with 44 on the clock, doing well to cut inside from the left and power an effort past Bantams 'keeper Tiffany Whelan.
Were it not for an offside flag Emma Siddall would have added an eighth in first-half stoppage time, but with chances mounting Blades did find another from close range before the break.
With her team leading by eight at the break, head coach Rebecca Sawiuk took the chance to experiment with a new formation that saw Anna grey replace Naomi Hartley.
Two more changes followed in the first 10 minutes of the second half, with Walker replacing Blades and Rhema Lord-Mears taking the place of Reidford.
Burnley were back on the goal hunt quickly as Elford was denied one-on-one and Palmer had a spectacular effort from 25 yards tipped onto the bar and over.
The ninth eventually came 20 minutes from time and it was Elford’s fifth goal and first header of the game.
Walker edged the Clarets into double figures on the volley before Logan came agonisingly close to her second, but shot just the wrong side of the post.
Sawiuk’s final two changes saw Mikayla Wildgoose replace Siddall, while Elford made way for debutant Charlie Chadwick.
Logan rounded off an action-packed day with probably the best goal of the lot in the 84th minute, cutting in from the left to unleash a screamer into the top right corner.
The Clarets have now scored 23 goals in two Adobe Women’s FA Cup matches this season and have won nine straight matches in all competitions.
Next up is the third round tie against Nottingham Forest on Sunday 8th December.
