Burnley Women completed their pre-season schedule with a well-fought battle against Serie A opposition Lazio on Saturday morning.
The Italians were 4-1 victors, with Charley Docherty coming off the bench to score the Clarets goal as the clock hit 90.
Manager Matt Beard named a starting XI that included several of the Club’s summer signings, including Yana Daniëls and Jasmine Matthews who slotted into the defence.
Abbey-Leigh Stringer and Millie Ravening played in midfield, with Everton loanee Mel Lawley joining the forward line alongside Claudia Walker.
After a tight opening 10 minutes Brenna McPartlan was first to test the opposing ‘keeper, before Lazio’s Clarisse Le Bihan hit the bar from 20 yards.
Le Bihan wasn’t to be denied in the 26th minute though, as she headed a cross from the right into the bottom left corner.

The French midfielder was involved in Lazio’s second shortly before half-time, when her blocked shot fell to Eleonora Goldoni to poke home.
The visitors made five changes at the break and increased their lead from the penalty spot seven minutes after the restart, with Goldoni picking out the top right corner.
Beard then turned to his bench, with Millie Chandarana replacing Ravening before Daniels and Matthews made way for Alethea Paul and Docherty respectively.
Lazio’s fourth goal was a penalty from Nicole Vernis and further changes saw Heidi Logan replace Walker at the same time as Hartley took the place of Siddall.
Logan almost had an immediate impact, pulling an effort narrowly wide of the post.
Our final switches saw Brooke Cairns and Charlie Chadwick enter the fray and the Clarets got the rewards their hard work deserved with virtually the last kick of the day.

After a free-kick was taken short, Docherty beautifully curled the ball into the top right corner from wide left of the penalty area.
