Burnley Women dropped points for the first time this season as Wolverhampton Wanderers claimed a 1-0 victory at Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon.
Amber Hughes’ first-half goal proved to be the difference between the two sides on a wet Lancashire day, with the result ending the Clarets’ run of four straight wins in all competitions.
Head Coach Rebecca Sawiuk named an unchanged line-up from last weekend’s 5-1 victory at Stoke City, with Jade Richards retaining the captain’s armband.
Burnley started brightly and almost took an early lead, with Laura Elford coming inches away from connecting with an Anna Grey cross.
Wolves were in a similarly attacking mood and Amber Hughes forced a fine low save from Kirstie Levell before opening the scoring with a 17th minute header.

The Clarets regrouped and had chances around the half hour, with Brenna McPartlan heading a Tilly Wilkes free-kick narrowly wide and Elford doing the same from an Emma Siddall delivery.
However, they were unable to find an equaliser before the break.
The second half started in a similar vein to the first, with Burnley on the front foot and Grace Palmer having the best of the efforts on goal.
Sawiuk rotated her pack around the hour, with Heidi Logan coming on for her second appearance in Claret before Claudia Walker replaced Elford and Amelia Hazard made way for Rhema Lord-Mears.
The changes instilled added impetus as Richards and Charley Docherty both had efforts blocked behind and Logan had a header saved low by Wolves ‘keeper Bec Thomas.

With the game now approaching the business end Aimee Kelly and Georgia Marshall entered the fray, with Sawiuk utilising all five substitutes in search of a way back into the game.
Burnley pushed forwards right until the final minute and came agonisingly close to scoring in second-half stoppage time, with McPartlan working Thomas twice and Palmer firing over from 15 yards.
It wasn’t to be, though, and Burnley now sit 3rd in the Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League table with nine points from four matches.
The Clarets are next in action against Nottingham Forest on Sunday 15th September, with the game kicking off at 2pm at their City Ground.
