Burnley FC Women now know the other 11 teams that will form the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League for the 2023/24 campaign with the Football Association today confirming the allocations throughout tiers 1-6 in the women’s football pyramid.
The Clarets are one of nine clubs to remain in the division from the previous season, with last term’s league winners Nottingham Forest also still in the third tier having lost the promotion play-off final to Southern Premier Division champions Watford.
From this season onwards, the promotion play-off final has been scrapped, and both champions of the Northern & Southern divisions respectively will be promoted to the Women’s Championship.
Of the nine clubs still in the league from the 2022/23 season, there has been a slight tweak with the formerly recognised Brighouse Town now under the guise of ‘Halifax’.
Elsewhere, two promoted sides will join the Northern Premier Division. There will be a first-ever trip to come against last season’s Division One Midlands champions Stourbridge as well as a trip to the North East to take on Newcastle United.
The Magpies pipped Durham Cestria to the Division One North title on goal difference.
Coventry United – now known as Rugby Borough - were the side to be relegated from the Women’s Championship last term, though Burnley will not face them in league action in 2023/24 as they have been placed into the Southern Premier Division.
Promoted outfits Cardiff City and Hashtag United will also compete in the Southern Premier Division.
