Women return to the league this Sunday with trip North

Team hope to continue positive run following back-to-back wins in Women’s FA Cup

Burnley FC Women visit Middlesbrough Women FC on Sunday in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women's National League.

The Clarets last league outing was a 2-0 win against Stoke City Women in early November. This was followed by consecutive wins in the Women’s FA Cup First and Second Round, against Durham Cestria and Fylde Women FC, resulting in the Clarets securing a place in the Third Round of the competition and a challenging tie against Women’s Championship opposition Liverpool FC Women on the horizon.

Middlesbrough’s game against league table toppers Derby County Women last weekend was postponed due to heavy snow fall and their last win in the league came on the 31st October, when they sealed victory over Hull City Ladies, 2-1.

Ahead of the fixture, Burnley FC Women Defender Sammy Fleck said: “We are coming off the back of an important win and team performance against Fylde last weekend.

"We are keen to take the positives and build momentum going into the Christmas break.”

Burnley FC Women Manager, Matt Bee is looking ahead to the encounter and a busy month of fixtures.

“We have to keep building and growing each week, we have been on a good run and Sunday was a big performance where we showed our quality and character.

“It is crucial to keep picking up points in the league and we are going into the game this weekend with a clear focus on how we want to approach it.

"Middlesbrough are well established in this league so we will have to perform in the right way to get a good result on the day.”

This weekend Burnley FC Women are proud to join the women’s game in supporting the Rainbow Laces campaign, to support the LGBTQ+ community and promote the important message that football is for everyone.

Sunday's game will take place at Bedford Terrace, Billingham on Sunday 5th December. KO is 2pm.
