Clarets welcome Sheffield FC Women this weekend for first home game of 2022

Burnley FC Women are back at home at Lancashire FA’s County Ground on Sunday as they welcome Sheffield FC Women in the Northern Premier Division of the FA Women’s National League.

The Clarets arrive at the fixture following a positive 3-1 win over Middlesbrough Women FC last weekend, placing them currently 6th in the table.

Sheffield, meanwhile, last played a competitive fixture on 5th December in the Women’s FA Cup, as the last league outing for Graham Abercrombie’s side later in December was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The Yorkshire opposition are 11th in the table at present and when the two sides last met in the league in August 2021, Burnley ran out 4-0 winners at the Home of Football Stadium on the day, with goals from Evie Priestley (2), Courtney Willis and Nic Worthington.

Captain Lauren Bracewell, who was unnamed in the side for last weekend’s fixture due to returning from Covid-19, said of the encounter: “We secured a great win against Middlesbrough to start the year, it was definitely the positive start for which we were hoping. I thought it was a fantastic display from the entire team and we fully deserved the three points.

“As I’ve said before, there’s no easy games in this league and we know that Sheffield will be coming to try and cause an upset. However, coming off the back of such a dominant performance against Middlesbrough, the team are feeling very confident that we will get a result.”
