Ian Woan believes that “winning breeds confidence” ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Huddersfield Town at Turf Moor.
The Clarets welcome Carlos Corberan’s Terriers to Lancashire which kick-starts their cup campaign.
Woan will take charge of the in absence of Sean Dyche, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.
“We’ll be planning with all of the preparations to go and win a game of football. It is important that you win matches, and it breeds confidence, we want to be winning games and we want to get confidence through the squad,” Woan said.
“The lads have been training and going about their business, and we’ll do whatever we can to go and win a game of football.
“The FA Cup holds a special place in my heart and it’s a competition that I always want to do well in.
“I think it’s part of the fabric of English football and it was an important part of us growing up.
“We’ve been training with a group of players. Michael Jackson has come over from the U23's to help out, but we’ve got it done, and prepared.”
Huddersfield come into the fixture currently sixth in the Sky Bet Championship table having won three out of their last five matches, and Woan is expecting a tough test.
Woan continued: “They (Huddersfield) are six unbeaten, they are sixth in the league, going well and are a confident side with a good fluid style of play on the counter attack, so we’ll have to be at our very best if we want to get something from the game, as they are a good outfit with a young and energetic coach who will get them right up for it.
“They have a really organised squad, they can switch to a back three or a back four during the game, they are quick, and they can compete.”
Woan provided an update on Dyche to the media and says that he will be in contact with the boss.
He added: “I’ve been in constant dialogue with him, so he’ll have a big impact on the team selection, and we’ll have a chat about that.
“It will be odd, Steve Stone has tested positive as well, and it’s different not having the Gaffer around the place, but we’ll do what we have to do."
