This year marks the centenary of the Royal British Legion and to celebrate and honour this milestone, the club invited a group of service veterans to our Premier League match against Brentford last month.
The service veterans enjoyed our matchday hospitality at Turf Moor before taking centre stage, as a crowd of near 20,000 paid tribute with a minute’s silence prior to kick-off to remember those who had lost their lives during WW1 and WW2.
In attendance was Wes Chaudhry, who represented his grandfather, Captain Nawaab Chaudhry, and he was part of the Commonwealth in both World Wars, becoming one of the most decorated soldiers in the British Indian Army.
Also in attendance were veterans who engage with Burnley FC in the Community Veterans Programme. We would like to thank everyone including the veterans in attendance and everyone for their ongoing service.
OWN A SPECIAL EDITION POPPY SHIRT TO SUPPORT THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION
Football in the UK came together to wear poppy-bearing shirts in matches played in the lead up to this year’s Remembrance weekend.
We are honoured to show support for the Armed Forces community, with all players bearing the poppy on their shirt in the games against Brentford on Saturday 30th October and away at Chelsea on Saturday 6th November.
All match-worn shirts will be signed and are now available to purchase in a live auction to raise funds going to The Royal British Legion.
Every day, the Armed Forces community continue to make sacrifices on our behalf, the red poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future.
You can get involved in the live auction and be in with the chance to own a match-worn shirt - bid and win here. All strips are personally signed by the players, once the live auction ends the shirts will be professionally disinfected – whilst maintaining the match-worn elements – before being posted out to the winning bidders.
