Goalscorer reflects on dominant performance against Hornets

Jaidon Anthony was all smiles following the Clarets' deserved win over Watford at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.

Grabbing the opening goal just nine minutes in, his first at Turf Moor this season, the winger said he felt the team were well worthy of the victory following a dominant performance.

“I'm happy. I thought for a lot of the game we dominated and were well worthy of the three points. So yeah, very happy with that one.

“I thought we created a lot of chances and probably could have put the game to bed a lot earlier. But that’s football and they scored from a set piece which is frustrating for us, we had to see the game out and I thought we did that well. I’m very happy.”

Anthony's opener was his first goal at Turf Moor this campaign and it's been one he's been waiting to score.

“Yes, it’s about time! I’ve been wanting that goal to come for a long time and it came today. It was a great ball from Browny, and I just had to stay composed and luckily, I could do that and find the back of the net. It was an amazing feeling.”

And in terms of inserting the home side's dominance on the game, did he feel that getting that early goal helped set the tone for the game?

“I feel like that’s been a frustrating thing for us this season, we create a lot of chances, and we haven’t really been able to score many early goals. It was nice to get that one today and I thought that settled the lads and we were able to put our stamp on the game from there.”

The Clarets scored the two goals but created plenty of chances throughout, did he feel like the scoreline could have been more?

“Definitely, I thought the attacking unit was top today, we created loads of chances and opened them up a lot of times. We’ve been working on that a lot in training and it’s nice to see it coming out in the games. Hopefully, we can continue that.”

There's been a lot of talk about the team's defensive work so far this campaign, how important is today's performance and the number of chances created going to be with a run of tough fixtures coming up over the festive period?

“I think throughout the season we’ve been a top team defensively and we work so well together as a team. We’ve been frustrated with the way we’ve been attacking at times, we put in a lot of work and I’m sure there’s a lot of work to go as well.

“It’s nice to do that today and hopefully long may it continue in this period.”

And it was nice to send the Clarets fans home with a Christmas present of three points?

“Yes, perfect. Hopefully everyone’s happy with that and they can have a lovely Christmas.”
