Josh Brownhill urges the Clarets to finish the season strong and begin the preparation for next season already when Burnley host Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

Although Burnley fell to a narrow defeat last time out at Spurs which saw Vincent Kompany's side relegated, Brownhill is eager to finish the campaign with three points at Turf Moor.

Speaking on Friday ahead of the final game of the season, the midfielder said: "Some people might think this game is nothing for both teams but for us, I’d say it’s a chance to showcase ourselves again and sort of play yourself into the team for next year for some people.

"It’s a game we want to go and win, we don’t just want to finish on the points we’ve got now, we want to get them three points for another weekend just to show that we are still a really good team even though we have gotten relegated, we are still competing, as I said we are starting to prepare for next season and end this season on a high."

Brownhill added: “It’s huge. I think that we let the boys in the dressing room know that it’s not just another game at the end of the season, our focus is on getting the three points.

"You know, we want to win, we want to win another game, get a home win, three points, and just end the season on a high really, and go into the summer knowing that we won the game at the end of the season."

Following confirmation last week the Clarets will be playing Championship football next season, Brownhill is hoping to use his valuable experience and know-how of the league to make it another successful campaign.

"The Championship is not an easy division, I’ve been in it 4-5 years in my career. I’ve had some good years in the Premier League, but I spent majority in the Championship and I’ve fought relegation in the Championship with Bristol City and then we were fighting for playoffs, we had some really good teams in the division at that time and you know, looking around then you seen what it takes to get promoted.

"We get relegated from Burnley into it (2022), I knew what it takes, it was always going to be difficult, and we did that and we absolutely smashed it, and it was a brilliant season.

"So now, obviously we got some new people in the building, so showing them what it was like and what it takes, because like I say, it may seem like some kind of easier league, but it’s physically so hard with games every three days and having to win games back to back constantly and consistently all season is not easy.

"So yeah, something we look forward to, it’s going to be a different year, being in the Championship, but one that we look forward to when it comes around.”
