Clarets shot stopper focused on final eight games

James Trafford knows the Clarets will need to be at their best in the final eight games of the 2024/25 campaign to ensure it ends a successful season.

Burnley, who currently sit third and two points off top of the league, take on Bristol City this weekend in the first fixture of the last leg of the season and the goalkeeper says it's the start of an 'exciting' eight games to come.

Speaking to Clarets+ on Thursday ahead of the clash, Trafford explained: "It's good to be back. We've got five weeks left of the season and an exciting eight games to play. We'll give it our best shot every single game and see where it takes us.

"We know what we need to do and that we need to win games. We're not naive, think every team around is going to win every game or that we're going to win every game, but there will be plenty of ups and downs between now and May 3rd."

Trafford added: "Every game we go out there to try and win and that's the aim this weekend starting with Bristol. It's a good one to kick it off and I'm excited to see Twiney again!"

As well as the team, Trafford has enjoyed a successful spell in between the sticks this season and the 22-year-old admits he and his teammates have 'had a lot of fun' throughout the campaign.

"It is a team effort and it's full credit to the whole team. It's been a very enjoyable season for me and the lads. We've had lots of fun and I've improved a lot on and off the pitch.

"It's been good overall. Everyone has had their own individual challenges, stories and we've come together as a team to give it our best shot and we're here now with eight games to go and two points off top, it's a great position to be in and we're excited for the end."

The Burnley No.1 was also included in England boss Thomas Tuchel's first Three Lions squad last week and Trafford was delighted to be included in the senior side once again.

"It was good to be back with them and obviously meet the new manager. It's nice to be away with them, train hard, work hard then be back here now ready for the final run in."
