Right-back praises teammates for Turf Moor victory

Kyle Walker acknowledged that he and his teammates were aware of the importance of Saturday's fixture against Leeds United and gave the squad full credit for the three points, two goals and clean sheet kept on the day.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, Walker discussed his contribution, the two 'crackers' from Lesley Ugochukwu and Loum Tchaouna and just how much he's enjoying life at Burnley.

“We knew the importance of this game coming into it. I thought the first six, seven fixtures that we've had have being difficult ones, but I think we've handled it well. We've taken a lot of lessons and a lot of learning curves from it. And then we put that in today, a clean sheet first and foremost and two goals which we’re crackers to be fair.

The right-back played a key role in the first goal with a beauty of a cross for Ugochukwu. How pleased was he to see the team get ahead following close results in previous performances?

“Exactly, Man United penalty, Liverpool penalty. I felt that we dug in before the international break against Aston Villa but just fell short.

“Lesley’s a big presence in the box and when you’ve got a presence like him you just need to put the ball in there and hopefully someone will get on the end of it. So, don’t worry about the cross it’s full congratulations to him!”

And Tchaouna's strike, does he see him pull that off in training?

“Yeah, you know the shot power that he’s got in training, you can see that, and he’s brought that into the game, it’s full credit to him. He’s started the last couple of games and then the manager decided to change the tactics a little bit today. He could have sat there disappointed, sulking on the bench but I think it’s full credit to him that when he’s got his opportunity, he’s just given the manager a quick reminder I’m here and that’s what we need. It’s not about the 11 that start, it’s about everyone as a collective. It’s about Burnley Football Club and that’s everyone, the players, the fans, the coaching staff. For us to make sure we’re where we want to be come the end of the season, we need everyone and full credit to him.”

With a victory on home turf under their belts, Walker's keen to carry the positive momentum into next weekend's encounter against Wolves at Molineux.

“We’re not going to hide from it; it’s a six pointer especially at home. We need to make sure that these games we take the three points at the very least. I think to come out with a clean sheet and a good performance, that’s full credit to the lads. We’ve worked hard over the international break; the manager put his stamp on where he thought we could hurt them. I thought that we played an effective game today, so we look forward to next week, hopefully we can go and get the same result, and we say it’s a good end to the month.”

Finally, with a good togetherness in the dressing room and positives to take from the campaign so far, the celebrated right-back is loving life with the Clarets.

“It’s fantastic, absolutely fantastic, I’m loving every minute of it. I wake up every morning, I can’t wait to get in to see the lads, to help other people, pass on my experience. The manager is a joy to work with as well. I had the pleasure of working with him as a player and he’s not changed. He’s a class man and it’s full respect to him.”
