Kyle Walker and his team-mates were left pondering what might have been at the full-time whistle on Sunday afternoon, as Mo Salah's stoppage-time spot-kick won it for Liverpool at Turf Moor.
Burnley could count themselves extremely unfortunate not to take a point from a keenly-contested affair, in which Scott Parker's side showed once again they can go toe-to-toe against the best teams in the Premier League.
A dejected but proud Walker, said: "Football is a cruel game sometimes.
"I've experienced a lot of highs in this game, but this is a low - but it's a proud low, if that makes sense.
"The game plan that we'd worked on all week was delivered well for over 90 minutes and then a penalty decision goes their way - that's the way that football goes sometimes.
"The Premier League is cut-throat. The game is never over until the final whistle. We've suffered twice now in back-to-back games.
"But we've got to look at the overall performance - we competed really well against one of the best sides in the division."
Walker insists he and his team-mates will lick their wounds and dust themselves down and be ready to go again for the visit of Nottingham Forest to Turf Moor on Saturday.
"This young group of men, supported by the experienced guys like myself, will learn from this," he said.
"It's a learning curve and something we need to address very quickly, because that's two valuable points we've dropped now in two matches.
"The lads gave everything, absolutely everything.
"This is an incredible group to be part of, on and off the pitch, and we will regroup, dig deep and be ready for Forest next weekend."
