Matej Vydra scored what turned out to be the winner as the Czech Republic enhanced their promotion hopes in the Nations League.
The Clarets’ striker notched the second goal with a cool finish as his country won 2-1 in Israel.
It was Vydra’s sixth goal in his 28th appearance for the Czech Republic and sets up perfectly a top of the table clash in League B Group 2 with Scotland at Hampden Park on Wednesday night.
The Scots beat Slovakia 2-1 on Sunday to extend their unbeaten start, while the Czechs are a point behind with two wins from their first three games.
The winners of each of the groups win promotion towards the top tier, while extra qualification places for the 2022 World Cup Finals will be available via the competition.
Robbie Brady won his 50th cap for the Republic of Ireland in a 0-0 draw with Wales.
Burnley team-mate Kevin Long also started the League B Group 4 game in Dublin but was replaced after 25 minutes with a cut above an eye.
The draw allowed unbeaten Wales to stay top of their group, while Ireland will be looking for their first win in Finland on Wednesday night.
Clarets keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell was given the afternoon off as Northern Ireland lost 1-0 at home to Austria to remain bottom of League B Group 1 before a mid-week trip to Norway.
And goalkeeping colleague Nick Pope was also an unused substitute as England beat Belgium 2-1 at Wembley to stay top of League A Group 2 ahead of Wednesday night’s visit of Denmark.
In the same group, Iceland remained pointless with a 3-0 home defeat to Denmark as Clarets winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson watched from the bench.
Iceland now host Belgium on Wednesday night with their focus, presumably, more on a Euro 2020 play-off final against Hungary next month, when Northern Ireland face Slovakia at Windsor Park with a place at next summer’s Euro finals the prize for the winners.
