Brazilian defender Vitinho became Vincent Kompany's ninth signing of the summer transfer window, after joining on the eve of the 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship season.
The 23-year-old, who signed a four-year deal at Turf Moor, spoke about growing up in Brazil, playing in Belgium, working under Kompany and what the Clarets fanbase can expect from him.
Vitinho on getting the deal done:
“I am very happy to be here. It’s a big Club and I’ve transferred here because the players, the coaches, and everyone else are going to help me.
“I think it’s a big step for me. I can learn a lot here from the players, the group, and the coaches. Everything here is amazing. It’s a big, big Club.”
Vitinho on working with manager Vincent Kompany:
“He is a big coach. He was a big player and when he called me, I didn’t need to be asked twice because I wanted to come to Burnley and work with him.
“He was a big factor [in why I came here]. He was a big player, he has a lot of experience, and now he’s here I can learn a lot with him. He has told me that.”
Vitinho on growing up playing football in Brazil:
“Brazil is different, it’s more about technique. Players here are more tactical and when I went to Belgium, I learned a lot.
“The life is different [in Europe], but now I’ve adapted, and I can start to play in England. The Championship is a big competition.
“It is a big honour for me [to be the first ever Brazilian player signed by Burnley].”
Vitinho on his four years in Belgium with Cercle Brugge:
“I have been there for four years. The league is totally different to Brazil – it’s more powerful, it’s harder, and there’s more running.
“I learned a lot and now I am more mature, I have different thinking.”
Vitinho on his international experience:
“I was with big players in Brazil [the national team] like Neymar who you see on the TV, and I learned a lot being with them.
“It was amazing and my objective is to be there again in the Brazilian national team. Being here will only help me towards that.”
Vitinho on his playing style:
“I’m very fast with Brazilian technique. I think I have learned a lot [in terms of] defence [during my time in Belgium] because in Brazil, I can attack all the time.
“Here it’s not like that. I am prepared now, and I am ready. I’m just glad to be here.”
Vitinho on the upcoming campaign and the Clarets fans:
“I think we’re going to have an amazing season. You have to work a lot every day [for that to happen].
“We have to be together because the fans are going to be helping us a lot. If the fans stay with us, they can know that we are going to give our all to fight.
“Today is the first day for me here, but the group have worked a lot [over the summer] with Vincent and his staff to prepare [for Friday night’s game against Huddersfield Town].
