Vitinho has praised the fantastic backing shown by Clarets fans so far this season, and hopes for a sell-out crowd at Turf Moor on Saturday against Middlesbrough as he and his teammates look to maintain their place at the top of the tree.
The 23-year-old joined the Club in the summer transfer window, and has featured in all bar one of our Sky Bet Championship fixtures to date this term, netting twice.
Speaking to the Club’s media in the build-up to the visit of ‘Boro, the Brazilian described how much he and the squad enjoy playing at Turf Moor & the importance of having the fans behind them.
“It’s always great to play at home, and I think it’s much better [than playing away] because we’ve got the fans behind us and they’re supporting us at our home stadium.
“It’s great to play in front of a full house. It really motivates us, it motivates the coaching staff, and we know we’re not alone with the support behind us. It just adds that little bit extra in terms of our motivation to train and our motivation to win. We just run that little bit more, it’s a great feeling.
“This is a different type of fixture because it’s coming up so close to Christmas, but we’re working hard to get a win.”
The Clarets remain unbeaten at home in 12 Turf Moor games this season, and have won their last six on the bounce on home soil heading into Saturday’s game.
One of a number of players signed in the summer to already have a chant made for him, Vitinho credits the supporters for the role they’ve played in that run, and thanks them for being part of the journey.
“I’m really happy to represent the fans on the pitch, and I hope we can continue doing really well for them. Not just for me, but as a group, it’s been a wonderful experience.
“I didn’t expect in my first game that the fans would already have a chant for me, it was marvellous! They embraced me as if I was already a part of the family, and that’s the first chant I’ve ever had in my career.
“I’m still a young player, so I’ll never forget that. I’m really grateful to the fans for that, and I think that support with them signing my name will help me on the pitch.”
A Brazilian youth international, Vitinho also touched on seeing one of his best friends at the Club in Anass Zaroury progressing on the international stage.
Zaroury has so far made it to the World Cup Semi-Finals with Morocco, and Vitinho believes being with Burnley will only aid him and the other young players in progressing in a similar fashion.
“I’m really happy for him because he deserves this, he’s a young player that’s got so much ahead of him. I’m also a younger player, and representing the Brazilian national team is within my plans.
“I’ve already played for them at youth levels, and a call-up [at senior level] would be the consequence of my hard work here. The Club can really help me to develop a lot.
“Talking to the manager and the coaching staff, they’ve given me individual training setups on areas that I can improve upon and do better in.
“It’s an older, more experienced squad than the one I was used to in Belgium which means I don’t just learn from the experiences of the manager or the coaches, but I also learn from players around me who are really willing and helpful in supporting us younger players.”
And Vitinho highlighted just how important Vincent Kompany is – and will be – for his and others development, providing an insight into how the manager works to strengthen continually.
“He’s someone who really does help his players. He’s really concerned with us as individuals, both on and off the pitch. I can learn so much from him, not just from his vast experience [as a player], but also his experience as a manager.
“He teaches us a lot and makes what he wants us to do very clear, and he doesn’t just concern himself with the overall team, but he looks at us with our individual development.
“I’m only 23, and I think I can develop & learn a lot from him. Before I came here, I did a lot of research on the internet to find out about the Club, and there’s everything here to provide everything we can possibly need. I’m really happy.”
