Full-back looks ahead to Blades meeting

Last Saturday's late defeat to West Ham United was a disappointing end to a promising performance from the Clarets. However, full-back Vitinho is confident that the team can change the current situation.

“Of course we are not happy,” said the Brazilian.

“I think we deserved to win the game. We played well. Then we conceded two goals. We believe we can change the situation. We train every day and work hard every day and we believe it’s going to change.

“We played well, we played like we train, and when you concede two goals in the last five minutes it’s difficult. We lost but we have to go again. We have to prepare for Saturday and forget the last game.

“We have to train. If you want to change something you’ve got to work for it. You do this every day. The performance is good. Our team need the ball to play well. Like last season, we had the ball always and now we start to play like last season. We go again. We prepare every day.

“This season we have a lot of new players, a lot of change, but now I think the players understand how we want to play.”

The Brazilian defender had a debut campaign to remember at Turf Moor after making the move from Belgian outfit Cercle Brugge last summer. He signed a contract extension with the Club in September, adding at the time: “I’m really pleased to extend my contract here. I have enjoyed every minute of being at Burnley and can’t wait to see what the future holds.

“The fans have been amazing to me and made me feel welcome ever since I joined. I look forward to making more special memories with them.”

Ahead of Saturday's game at Turf Moor against fellow promoted side Sheffield United, Vitinho is feeling confident that the Clarets can pick up their first home win of the campaign.

“Every game important. Not because it is Sheffield United. It’s another game. We have to play our game. If we play our game with the ball, if we play like did in the last game, then we will win.

“We knew it was going to be difficult but we always believe every day because the situation is going to change.”

The difference between the Premier League and the Championship is well documented but Vitinho admits that he is relishing testing himself against the best players in the world.

“It’s a lot different. The players are strong and fast. It is good because you play against the best players in the world. You have to prepare.”
