New arrival Lawrence Vigouroux says that joining Burnley was the 'right step and right way to go' after signing a three-year-deal following his departure from Leyton Orient.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper spent the previous three seasons at Brisbane Road after joining in January 2020 and went on to make over 150 appearances. The former Liverpool shot-stopper also won the O's Player of the Season in all three campaigns in East London.
Vigouroux helped Orient secure promotion last season winning the Sky Bet League Two title, which also saw the former Chile international included in the League Two Team of the Season and win the Golden Glove award.
The former Tottenham academy youngster now believes that joining the Clarets until the summer of 2026 is the next right step for him in his career and insists he will work hard to leave an impression at the Club.
Speaking to burnleyfc.com, Vigouroux said: “It’s amazing to be here! Unbelievable training ground to be a part of. Really happy to be here. “You only have to look around where we’re working and training every day. This was the right step and the right way to go. Hopefully I can leave an impression here.
“The style of play from last season. You could see from last season they have a really progressive style of play that I want to be a part of. I want to work and I want to improve. I’m still young in terms of being a goalkeeper and I still feel I can get much better. After watching a lot of the games last season I feel I can work really hard here every day and hopefully get a chance to show my capabilities.
“I pride myself on distribution. It’s something that’s so important to me. I try to play really high, be a sweeper. Those are things in the modern game I think are really important and that’s what I try to model myself on.
“When you go to a top club you know where are going to be very very good players in all positions. It’s up to me to prove how good I am and how hard I can work to get my way into the team.”
Vigouroux spent two years at Anfield between 2014-2016 after joining from Spurs but was unable to break through into the first team set up and spent time on loan at Swindon Town before joining permanently.
After a seven year absence from being in the top-flight, the Camden-born goalkeeper says it 'means everything' to be back in the Premier League.
“That means everything. It’s taken me a long time to get back here. I’ve come full circle and I’ve had a lot of experiences in my life and in my career as well that I can draw on.
"I feel like I’m finally back where I should be and hopefully I can prove to everyone that I deserve to be here.”
During his four years at the County Ground with the Robins, Vigouroux played with current Claret Scott Twine and admits he's 'proud' of Twine's progression since leaving Swindon.
“A really nice kid! I loved playing and training with him. He was one of the best at the club at the time and has gone on to become a really top player and I’m really proud of him.
“He said it’s a really good changing room and that for me is the most important thing. It’s where you spend the majority of every day. So that’s really important."
