Burnley Football Club are pleased to confirm the addition of Julien Vetro to our U21s squad, with the winger immediately joining Dundee on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The 20-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Clarets and will continue his development with our strategic partner club in the Scottish Premiership.
“I’m really happy to sign for Burnley,” he said.
“It’s a big club in England with a big story, and I like the project that’s been set for me.
“I like to try and be an explosive, technical player and think I have good in-game vision. My aim is to score goals and make assists.”
The Frenchman came through the youth system at Bordeaux, featuring heavily in their B team for several years before making his first-team breakthrough in 2023/24.
In the second half of the campaign he made 13 appearances in Ligue 2 and a further two in the Coupe De France, all of which came from the substitutes bench.
His first senior goal came in the form of a stoppage-time equaliser against Amiens SC in February.
Moreover, Vetro was included in the France U20s squad for two games against Germany in March 2024.
He is the latest Claret to move north of the border as part of their learning pathway, following the likes of Michael Mellon, Dara Costelloe and Owen Dodgson.
The ‘Dark Blues’ have started their top-flight campaign well under the leadership of Tony Docherty, claiming five points from three matches.
On joining Dundee, Vetro added: “I know that they made the top six last season so they have objectives, and I spoke with the coach who made me want to join.
“Hopefully we can achieve similarly this season and go as far as possible in the Scottish Cup.”
