US PRE-SEASON FC CINCINNATI: JACKSON POST-MATCH POINTS

Mike Jackson said Friday evening's game against FC Cincinnati, the first of three pre-season fixtures for the Clarets whilst on their US tour, was a good, competitive test that they could learn from.

Speaking after the game, the coach was full of praise for the MLS side's atmospheric stadium and hopes the Club can settle now that new Head Coach Nicky Hayen has been appointed.

A GOOD TEST

“I think from our point of view of where we’re at in pre-season, it’s a good thing for us to be in a competitive game. It was a really good test for us; we got a lot from it.

“The second half we put eight academy players on, which is a good test for them, it’s good learning for them.

“If we come through these few games, and the test is as good as it was tonight then that’s a brilliant pre-season tour for us in terms of where we need to be when we get back.”

IMPRESSED WITH CINCINNATI

“I thought it was brilliant, the whole atmosphere, before the game, it was great. The fans, engagement, the way people engaged in the game, it was brilliant. It’s a real ideal situation for us.

“FC Cincinnati played well, second half they took the game away from us, but I think that’s to be expected sometimes when you play young players. It was part of the learning.”

WEISS PLAYING 90 MINUTES

“Where we’re at with the goalkeeper situation at this moment in time, we’re short on goalkeepers.

“Max physically, is immense. It’s not a physical drain on a goalkeeper in a game - he does a lot more in training. It’s probably a bit more of a mental thing for him. But he’s got the mentality to do that, no problem.

“He’ll probably maybe only play 45 in the next game and probably then go for another 90 but he’s well capable of doing that.”

NICKY HAYEN’S APPOINTMENT

“It’s great for the Club. It’s taken longer than the Club would have wanted but there’s a lot of moving parts with these things. There’s a lot of things that have to be right for both parties.

“Now it’s done, hopefully everyone can just settle a little bit because no-one likes uncertainty, players, staff, clubs, fans. So, hopefully that just settles everyone down a little bit, and we can crack on with the rest of the pre-season.”
