Steve Stone's side lost just their second game in nine matches, with a 2-1 defeat at home to Stoke City on Monday afternoon.
D'Margio Wright-Phillips gave the visitors the lead, before Max Thompson struck an equaliser for the Clarets minutes later.
But Kieran Coates' 56th minute effort proved to be the winner in a tight contest at Leyland.
There was just one change to the side that beat Newcastle United last Monday, with Connor Barret coming in for Anthony Glennon, who is likely to be involved with Sean Dyche's side on Tuesday evening in the FA Cup.
After a quiet opening 20 minutes, the first real chance came for midfielder Ben Woods, who fired just over the bar from a free-kick on the egde of the area.

But it was the Potters who found the opener in a tight opening contest on a wintry afternoon in Lancashire, as son of former Manchester City and England winger Sean Wright Phillips, D'Margio, fired home from inside the area.
However, the visitors were only ahead for two minutes, as Richard Nartey kept the ball alive with two looping headers into the area, before the in-form Thompson eventually rifled home into the bottom corner, to pull the scores level.
With the two sides level at the break, it was former Clarets striker, Kevin Russell's side who came out on the front foot in the second-half.

And the Potters regained the lead just before the hour mark, after right-back Kieran Coates latched onto a Burnley clearance, before slotting coolly past Marc Richter, in the Burnley goal.
Moments later, the visitors came close to a third, after winger Christian Norton broke through on goal, only to see his one-on-one effort with Richter saved well by the towering German.
The Clarets pushed for an equalising goal as the clock ticked on, but Stone's side were kept at bay by a Stoke side, who moved to second in the table with the win.
