Burnley FC’s U21s side face Peterborough United at the idVerde Training Ground in the Professional Development League on Tuesday.
The Clarets previous game was a Premier League Cup tie against Brentford, in which the score ended 3-3 at Chorley FC’s Victory Park.
Nathan Young-Coombes gave Brentford the lead, slotting past Denis Franchi into the bottom corner, leaving the Italian stopper with no chance.
The Brentford striker then added a second, as the ball broke nicely for him in the area, and he shot low under Franchi and into the back of the net to put the visitors back in front.
The Clarets battled back instantly, and pulled a goal back three minutes later, as Lewis Richardson was played through and took his finish very well into the far corner past Angelini, before Will Hugill took full advantage of the ‘keeper spilling the ball, as he prodded home the leveller and the teams went into the break all square.
Clarets host Foxes in cup action
The Bees went back in front when Ashley Hay headed across Franchi, and his effort dropped into the far bottom corner.
With sixteen minutes to go, it was Hugill who equalised once more – netting his second goal of the game, and the season as a whole – as Socoliche cut the ball back again and this time the midfielder managed to curl a low effort into the back of the net.
Away from the cup and that result, the Clarets currently sit 4th in the Northern Section of the Professional Development League table.
Tuesday’s opponents Peterborough, managed by Ryan Semple, have started the season slowly and are without a win, with seven losses in seven games.
In their previous league fixture, the Posh were beaten 4-2 by sixth placed Barnsley away from home.
Hisham Chiha opened the scoring for Semple’s side, before Fabio Jalo found the net from the spot to level just after the break.
Former Claret Nathan James was sent off, but another from Jalo alongside goals from a Trialist and Mylan Benjamin put the Tykes 4-1 up.
Gabriel Overton netted a consolation for Posh, and Conor McCarthy received Barnsley’s second red card of the game, as the score ended 4-2.
In the last meeting between the Clarets and Peterborough back in March, the game at the Burnley Training Centre ended in a 1-1 draw.
The opening goal came on 35 minutes via the head of skipper Dan Sassi when Marcel Lewis whipped a free kick in, and the centre back got in front of his man to glance home with a low header.
Visitors Posh levelled within a minute of the second half getting underway as Lewis Darlington ran onto a through ball and slotted past Charlie Casper one-on-one, to ensure the points were shared.
