Burnley U21s play their Fleetwood Town counterparts on Friday afternoon in the semi-finals of this season’s Lancashire FA Senior Cup.

The young Clarets lost the 2023/24 final to Barrow back in November, so will be keen to win here and potentially regain their title later down the line.

Andy Farrell’s team’s journey in this year’s competition started before Christmas when they beat Blackpool 3-1 in December.

Lewis Richardson and Joe Westley, who are now plying their trade on loan in the National League and League Two respectively, established a two-goal lead and after the Tangerines pulled one back, Kamarni Ryan made sure of the result.

Then came a quarter final against Morecambe and after Zach Johnson’s header was cancelled out, goalkeeper Lewis Forshaw saved two spot-kicks to help earn his team a 3-0 penalty shootout victory.

The U21s were last in action earlier this week, when they ended a run of three straight defeats by beating Category One outfit Sunderland in the Premier League Cup.

Tom Tweedy’s 10th goal of the season was the difference between the two teams in Chorley and the young Clarets will be aiming to keep that winning feeling going.

Fleetwood Town U21s are in Burnley’s Professional Development League section and Friday’s match will be the first of two between the sides in five days.

The Cods have won both of their matches in this competition 3-1, starting with Everton in the first round.

They then put Accrington Stanley to the sword five days before Christmas, with Crispin McLean, Mikey Lane and a trialist all finding the back of the net.

Led by Matt Lawlor, Fleetwood were last in action earlier this week and came from behind to beat Barnsley 2-1 thanks to an own goal and a Kobei Moore strike.

Supporters are welcome to attend the 1pm kick-off in person for free at Poolfoot Farm (FY5 4HX), with no tickets required.
