Burnley FC’s U21s side are back in action on Saturday, as they welcome Cardiff City to the Lancashire FA County Ground (11am KO, BST)
The Clarets put out a losing effort in last Monday’s – 21st August – game against Millwall, as they fell to a 3-1 defeat.
George Evans gave Millwall the lead in the 13th minute before Lewis Richardson levelled the game going into the break.
Aidomo Emakhu struck to re-establish the Lions advantage before substitute Seb Drosz sealed the three points for the hosts.
That result leaves the Clarets sat ninth in the Professional Development League North table.
Former Cardiff player Darren Purse, who made 111 appearances for the Bluebirds during his career heads up the U21s side, who have played a game more than Burnley in the league, as they opened their season with a 4-1 loss to new boys Fleetwood Town.
Josh Edwards, Theo Williams, Nathan Pond, and Thomas Hoyle netted for the Cods, with Cian Ashford netting the only Cardiff goal in reply.
Since that opener, Saturday’s visitors have also drawn 3-3 against Sheffield Wednesday in league action and are placed 7th in the Professional Development League South table following that result.
Chanka Zimba netted a hat-trick for the Bluebirds, as Bailey Cadamarteri’s brace and Guilherme Siqueira’s goal meant the game ended all square.
The last time the Clarets faced Cardiff was almost a year ago, on 30th August 2022, in a game that saw the U21s earn their first three points of the previous campaign.
Raheem Conte’s chip 27 minutes in put the Bluebirds ahead, but a second half comeback from Burnley saw Lewis Richardson level things up before Mark Helm struck to earn a hard-fought victory.
Entry for the game in Leyland will be FREE for season-ticket holders, with non-season ticket holders as follows:
