Burnley U21s will be aiming to claim a fourth straight victory in all competitions when Watford visit Turf Moor on Tuesday afternoon.

The match comes at an important time of the season, with Andy Farrell’s side occupying the second Professional Development League North play-off place with three matches to play.

The young Clarets’ last two league matches have been away from home, and the players have done well to claim back-to-back victories.

After a comfortable 3-0 victory at Colchester United, it was indeed a good Friday as Burnley put five past Crewe Alexandra at their Academy Training Ground.

Charlie Veevers opened the scoring with a fine goal in Cheshire and it was 2-0 before half-time, with Joe Bauress converting a Julien Vetro cross from close range.

Three goals in the final 10 minutes then put the gloss on the result, with substitute Basilio Socoliche netting the first two before left-back Oli Pimlott scored from the penalty spot in stoppage-time.

Farrell’s team now have 50 points from their 28 matches, which is three more than 2nd-placed Hull City’s tally. Importantly, the Clarets also have a game in hand on the Yorkshire side.

Unsurprisingly, Watford compete in the South section. After 27 matches they have accumulated 34 points, leaving them 9th in the 11-team table.

The Hornets ended a run of 10 league matches without a win on Good Friday when they beat Brentford 2-1 at home.

Iwan Morgan gave Brentford the lead at London Colney, but Watford followed Zak Fraser-Grante’s 85th minute equaliser with a 90th minute winner from Jonathan Lawson.

In Charlie Daniels and Dan Gosling, the Hornets are led by a Lead Coach and Assistant Coach pairing with more than 800 professional appearances between them.
