A place in the final of the Central League Cup is at stake when Burnley U21s face Stockport County on Wednesday afternoon.
The Central League Cup is a ‘reserve’ competition run by the EFL, with the young Clarets topping Group B having won all four matches.
Andy Farrell’s team beat Accrington Stanley, Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End and Wrexham along the way, scoring 12 goals and conceding only once in the process.
Burnley come into the game on the back of Sundays’ 2-0 Professional Development League victory over Charlton Athletic at Turf Moor.
Tommy McDermott produced an innovative finish in the first half and added a second from the penalty spot after the interval to secure all three Professional Development League points.
The team’s last Central League Cup group game was a 3-0 victory over Wrexham in which Renaldo Torraj and Joe Bevan established a controlling lead, before Ackeme Francis-Burrell scored his first Burnley goal to seal it in stoppage time.
Stockport County were the winners of Group A. They finished level on eight points with Huddersfield Town, but their goal difference of six was better than the Terriers’ five.
Their latest result in the competition was a 3-1 victory over Rotherham United, with the Hatters also recording a win over Salford City.
The winner of this tie will play either Wigan Athletic or Derby County in the final.
Supporters are welcome to attend the game at Burnley Training Centre free of charge on Wednesday, with kick-off at 1pm.
