Young Clarets aiming for ninth league victory of season

Burnley U21s bring their 2024 fixture calendar to an end with the visit of Hull City in the Professional Development League on Tuesday night.

Chorley FC’s Grant Store Victory Park Stadium is the venue for the 7pm kick-off, in which the young Clarets will aim to extend their unbeaten run to four matches.

It’s been a week since Andy Farrell’s team last took to the pitch, beating a Blackpool reserve side 3-1 in the first round of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup.

Lewis Richardson got the ball rolling with his first goal of the season after just two minutes and it was 2-0 by the ninth minute, with Joe Westley producing a first-time finish into the bottom left corner.

Blackpool fought back to halve the deficit through Taylor Bowen 10 minutes into the second half but substitute Kamarni Ryan ensured the Clarets’ progression to the next round 13 minutes from time.

Farrell’s side currently sit 3rd in the 11-team North section table with 26 points, seven less than league leaders Sheffield United who have played 15 matches compared to Burnley’s 14.

Wedged in between those two teams are Hull City who have 30 points from their 14 outings to date, all of which have come from victories.

The Tigers have won 10 of their last 11 league games, with the only defeat in that impressive run coming away at the Blades in November.

Conor Sellars’ team come into this one on the back of a 2-1 victory over Barnsley at the LNER Community Stadium in York last week. Noah Wadsworth and Rocco Coyle were on target that day.

Supporters are encouraged to support the team in the 7pm kick-off, with Burnley season ticket holders able to gain access for free.

Other adults are priced at £5, while concessions and under-18s are £2.
