Three points to play for at Turf Moor

The Turf Moor lights await Burnley U21s, who welcome Fleetwood Town to BB10 in the Professional Development League on Tuesday evening.

It’s the second time these two teams have locked horns in five days, with the young Clarets coming out on top in the Lancashire FA Senior Cup on Friday afternoon.

The game was decided by late drama at Fleetwood’s Poolfoot Farm Training Complex.

Burnley right-back Alex Healy-Byrne opened the scoring with 88 minutes on the clock, reacting quickly to swivel and finish into the bottom right from eight yards.

However, the match went to penalties after Fleetwood ‘keeper Oliver Bellizia went forward for a stoppage-time corner and planted a header into the bottom left corner.

Joe Bauress, Charlie Veevers, Murray Campbell and Tommy McDermott all held their nerve from 12 yards and ‘keeper Lewis Forshaw produced two strong saves to book Andy Farrell’s team’s place in the final.

Tuesday night’s match is in the league, and Farrell will be keen to see his team earn three points for the first time in over a month.

Admittedly there have been several cup matches since then, but the Clarets’ last PDL outing saw them lose 2-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Heading into this one Burnley are 3rd in the 11-team North section table with 38 points from 21 matches. Importantly, they have four games in hand on 2nd-placed Hull City.

Fleetwood are slightly lower down in 6th, having claimed 30 points from 22 matches.

The Cods were victorious in their last league outing though, beating Barnsley 2-1 thanks to an own goal and a well-worked counterattack that was finished off by Kobei Moore last week.
