Burnley U21s have their sights set on extending their unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions when Derby County visit Lancashire on Monday night.
The young Clarets earned their eighth Premier League 2 point of the season at Everton last week, winning back-to-back cup matches against Wigan Athletic and Brentford beforehand.
Andy Farrell’s side had to come from two behind against the Toffees at Finch Farm last Monday, with Braiden Graham’s fine strike opening the scoring.
Kingsford Boakye doubled their lead soon afterwards but good work from Oli Pimlott earned Burnley a penalty that Kian McMahon-Brown converted to halve the deficit.
A deserved equaliser eventually came in the 98th minute, with Ellis Clark advancing onto a loose ball in the area to convert well.
The young Clarets are currently 27th in the 29-team table, with two wins and two draws from their 14 outings.
Derby County are a point and a place worse off under the management of Danny Maye.
The Rams’ last outing was a respectable point at Manchester United though, despite being reduced to 10 men in the 61st minute.
Striker Justin Ogontolu opened the scoring with a first-half header at Leigh Sports Village that night, but substitute Louie Bradbury broke Derby hearts with a 92nd-minute equaliser.
It was a fantastic occasion for Farrell and his players the last times these two teams met, which was in May 2024.
Our youngsters overhauled a two-goal deficit again to win 3-2 and lift the Central League Cup trophy at Pride Park.
It was centre-back Murray Campbell who kickstarted the comeback in first-half stoppage-time that night, before further strikes from Joe Westley and Benn Ward secured the result.
Tickets for this 7pm kick-off at the County Ground, Leyland (PR25 2LF) can be purchased on the day, although Burnley season ticket holders can get in for free by showing their season ticket at the turnstiles.
Other adults are priced at £5, while concessions are £2.50.
