Burnley U21s continue their Premier League 2 campaign on Sunday afternoon, with Chelsea making the trip north for a 12pm kick-off.

The young Clarets will be looking to build on their 2-1 Lancashire FA Senior Cup victory over Barrow earlier this week, in which Andy Farrell’s substitutes turned the game around.

Barrow led at half-time thanks to Innes Cameron’s perfectly placed header, and Farrell made a quadruple switch on the hour.

Two of those players, Kian McMahon-Brown and Ellis Clark, combined for both goals as Burnley booked their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

The team’s last Premier League 2 fixture was at home to Sunderland last week, and the Black Cats ran out 3-0 winners.

All of their goals came in the first half and two were from the boots of Timur Tutierov, with the Ukrainian producing an impressive display on the left wing.

Heading into Chelsea, Burnley are 25th in the table with three points from five matches.

Chelsea have made a positive start to their campaign, winning three and drawing the other two of their five league matches.

Those defeats have come in their last two league outings, with the most recent being a 2-1 reverse to Stoke City on Saturday 27th September.

Some of the players involved on Sunday will have featured in the Londoners’ emphatic UEFA Youth League victory over Benfica last week.

17-year-old England youth international Shumaira Mheuka netted a hat-trick, with Ryan Kavuma-McQueen and Kobe Barbour adding extra gloss to the scoreline off the bench late on.

The Blues are managed by Calum McFarlane, who took up the role having left Southampton in the summer.

Burnley came out on top when these two teams met in the quarter finals of the Premier League Cup in April 2025.

Winger Julien Vetro gave the Clarets a first-half lead with a well-taken finish, before Tom Tweedy secured the result from close range in Chorley.
