West Londoners visit Chorley in Premier League Cup

Burnley U21s are preparing for Premier League Cup action under the lights against Chelsea on Monday night.

The Blues travel to Lancashire for a 7pm kick-off at the Grant Store Victory Park Stadium in Chorley, with both teams aiming to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

Andy Farrell’s side played two Professional Development League matches last week, and were unfortunately on the wrong end of the result on both occasions.

After losing 2-0 at Swansea City on the Monday, Brentford earned a come-from-behind victory at Turf Moor Friday lunchtime.

Winger Julien Vetro scored his first competitive goal in a Claret shirt to break the deadlock in a match that saw first-team players Aaron Ramsey and Mike Tresor gain valuable minutes.

However, the Bees stepped it up in the second half and two goals from Isaac Holland were enough for them to take all three points back south with them.

Their West London neighbours Chelsea make the same trip to Lancashire this evening on the back of a game at Stamford Bridge on Friday night.

Because of their Category One status they compete in Premier League 2, and it was in that competition that the Blues beat Aston Villa 4-1 just three days ago.

Goals from Ishe Samuels-Smith and Shumaira Mheuka gave Filipe Coelho’s side control at half-time, and they built on that position with further strikes from Donnell McNeilly and Brodi Hughes after the break.

The Londoners have won three straight matches and are fighting towards the top end of the PL2 table, currently sitting 4th.

As a reminder, we booked our place in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 win over another PL2 side in Sunderland at the start of last month.

Winger Tom Tweedy was on target that night in Chorley, and the match came after a strong Group G campaign from the young Clarets.

Chelsea beat Ipswich Town 2-1 to reach the last eight. Mheuka was on target again against the Tractor Boys, before schoolboy Ryan Kavuma-McQueen struck a last-minute winner.

Burnley season ticket holders can gain free entry by presenting it at the turnstiles on the night. Other adults are priced at £5, while concessions are £2.
