Premier League Cup action returns to Leyland

Burnley U21s round off their November fixture list with the visit of Cardiff City in the Premier League Cup on Friday night.

Having played half of their Group A matches the young Clarets are well placed to progress to the knockout stages of the competition, and three points here would do them the world of good.

Andy Farrell’s side head into it on the back of a narrow defeat to Brackley Town in the National League Cup earlier this week.

It finished 2-1 to the Saints, who led 2-0 thanks to quickfire goals in the first half before substitute Joe Bevan halved the deficit late on.

Our last Premier League Cup outing was against Queens Park Rangers last week, and the R’s returned to London with the three points.

Benji Wetshi netted his first Burnley goal of the season thanks to an expertly whipped finish into the bottom right corner, but QPR fought back well to earn the desired result.

Cardiff City are currently third in Premier League Cup Group F having taken one point from their two matches to date.

The Bluebirds operate a category two academy so compete in the Professional Development League, and it was in that competition that they earned an impressive 3-0 win at Charlton Athletic on Tuesday.

Luke Pearce, Troy Perrett and Jake Davies were all on target that day, and the Welsh outfit know that a result here is vital to their chances of reaching the knockouts.

Burnley were victorious in the reverse fixture between these teams back in September, with Charlie Veevers’ long-range strike being followed by Kamarni Ryan’s winner.

Kick-off at the County Ground in Leyland (PR25 2LF) is 7pm, and supporters are welcome to get behind the team in person.

Burnley season ticket holders can get in for free by showing their season ticket at the turnstiles, while other adults are priced at £5. Concessions are £2.50.
