Burnley U21s will take to the Turf Moor pitch for the fourth time this season on Friday afternoon, with Brentford the opponents in the Professional Development League.

It’s a welcome return to home soil for the young Clarets, whose last three matches have been away.

After beating Hull City 4-1 and Birmingham City 2-0 last week, Andy Farrell’s side were beaten by Swansea City at the Swansea.com Stadium on Monday night.

Both goals came in a first half that the Welshmen got the better of, with Morgan Bates and Jacob Cook finding the back of the net with less than 30 minutes on the clock.

As a result, we now have 44 points from 25 matches and sit 3rd in the 11-team North section table.

Brentford compete in the South section, with the league format seeing us play every northern team twice (home and away) and every southern team once (home or away).

The Bees have enjoyed a positive season in their section and sit 2nd in the table, with a game in hand on leaders Millwall.

Led by Manager Neil MacFarlane, they bounced back from an 8-1 defeat at the hands of AFC Bournemouth by beating Fleetwood Town 2-0 at the start of the week.

With first-team players Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey and Gustavo Nunes all featuring, Romelle Donovan and Chanse Headman scored at the end of each half to secure all three points.

These two teams last met in the Premier League Cup in January 2024, with the match ending 2-2 at Brentford’s Wheatsheaf Park.

The Bees led twice through Iwan Morgan and Ashley Hay, but a trialist and Lewis Richardson ensured Farrell’s side would not be making the long journey back north empty handed.
