Andy Farrell’s team switch their focus to the league

Burnley U21s’ busy fixture schedule continues on Friday afternoon, with the young Clarets set to play a second game in three days when Barnsley visit the County Ground in Leyland.

The match follows closely on the coat tails of Wednesday’s entertaining 4-3 victory over Stockport County in the Central League Cup.

Vernon Masara, Murray Campbell, Joe Bevan and Benn Ward were all on target at the Burnley Training Centre to earn a place in the final of the competition.

Andy Farrell’s team’s last Professional Development League outing was a 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic at Turf Moor.

Midfielder Tommy McDermott struck twice in that fixture and another three league points will be up for grabs against the Tykes.

As it stands, Burnley are 6th in the 11-team North section of the table with 38 points from 24 matches.

Barnsley are three points and a place better off but, importantly, the South Yorkshire club have played a game more.

Led by Tom Harban, the Reds have scored four goals in each of their last two games and beat Bristol City 4-1 at Oakwell Stadium earlier this week.

Stikes from Nathan James, Jonathan Bland and a trialist, combined with an own goal, saw them over the line.

These two teams are yet to play eachother this season, with the weather postponing this clash earlier in the campaign.

Supporters can attend this fixture at the County Ground (PR25 2LF), with Burnley season ticket holders able to gain free entry. Other adults are priced at £5 and concessions are £2.
