Burnley U21s will be aiming to record back-to-back Professional Development League victories when they travel to Barnsley for a 2pm kick-off on Tuesday afternoon.

The Young Clarets earned a confidence boosting victory over Peterborough United last week, with the match eventually ending 5-0.

Tommy McDermott got Andy Farrell’s team off to the perfect start as he finished off a well-worked team move, finishing first time with his left foot.

Lewis Richardson was next to strike before Joe Westley made it 3-0 with a similar finish to McDermott’s with 32 minutes on the clock.

The goals continued in the second half and it was half-time substitute Kamarni Ryan who scored both of them, with one being a header and the other a lob to finish off a quick counter attack.

After 17 games Burnley are 3rd in the 11-team table with 32 points courtesy of 10 wins and two draws.

Barnsley are competing slightly lower down the table and have earnt 16 points from their 18 matches to date.

Managed by Nicky Eaden, the Tykes come into this match on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Emley AFC in the quarter finals of the Sheffield and Hallamshire Senior Cup last week.

Emmaisa Nzondo hit a brace a day after his 19th birthday but it wasn’t enough for the Tykes to progress on the night.

Both of their league matches in 2025 have finished 2-2, the latest of which was against Crewe Alexandra.

The Clarets were 3-1 winners when these two teams met earlier this season but were forced to come from behind, with Callum West putting the visitors ahead after just five minutes.

Joe Bauress restored parity with a fantastic finish from just inside the Barnsley half and Vernon Masara completed the turn around with a powerful strike just before half-time.

João Mendes rounded off the scoring in the second half, and the Clarets will be looking for a similarly positive result when they head to Yorkshire.
